Save Money on Utilities - Insulate your Attic

Insulation saves money on utility bills, it's quieter, and it's more comfortable year 'round, and the best place to invest in insulation that will pay for itself quickly is the attic.  Here is a before and after shot of a Phelps Grove home built in 1950, but insulation was added in 2015.

Existing insulation was sparse at best in this 1950 built home. Winters were cold and summers were hot. Time to insulate.

The existing insulation was sparse, mashed down, and only inches thick.  Springfield recommends an R-46 for best results in this region.  That works out to be about 12 to 18 inches of new insulation depending upon how much existing you may have.  The results are dramatic, and the savings on utility bills is very real.  Area insulation companies will offer free estimates and most Phelps Grove homes' attics can be insulated for $600 to $1,000 by a professional, or of course you can do it yourself for less.
